On the border of Ethiopia’s Gedeo and Oromia zones, Gelana Abaya produces coffees with the hallmark elegance of Yirgacheffe—bright, floral, and refined. At the Gelana Abaya station, established in 2006, more than 700 smallholder farmers deliver freshly picked cherry. Each harvest, cherries are carefully hand-sorted, pulped, fermented, and washed before being dried on raised beds in the highland sun.The result is a washed coffee that captures Ethiopia’s most classic expression of clarity and nuance.
